A quick and easy introduction to ‘correct fingering’ techniques at the keyboard
Description: Easy Keys is a brief course in keyboard orientation
Time required: 4 hours or less
Targeted learners: Any person who cannot touch type (particularly
‘2 Finger’ typists)
Outcome: Correct fingering with reduced risk of Repetitive Strain Injury
Rationale: The incidence of repetitive strain injury in computer users is growing. Part of the problem is people’s reluctance to take a course in keyboarding. This reluctance can in part be traced to the long and sometimes boring nature of typing classes.
Easy Keys addresses this problem by covering a major component of typing skill in a period of 4 hours or less.
It covers correct fingering with careful attention to posture and that is all that it covers.
It is so quick and easy that it is not boring. The course takes the fear out of learning these skills and instills an interest to practice the new found methods.
As part of the On-site Prevention Programme, Back to Back strongly recommends that anyone who is not a ‘touch typist’ increase their keyboarding skills as this can considerably reduce the occurrence of Repetitive Strain Injury.
